Join us in Munros Bar, as featured in the CAMRA Guide, with our exclusive Gillean Ale and the full range of bottled Skye Ales. We also have a splendid selection of malt whisky and Scottish gin as well as a blossoming *rum palace*. Our bar staff are knowledgeable and ready to help you choose the Talisker for you, guide you as you explore Scottish tequila (yup, trust me, it’s fiiiiiiine) or introduce you to the delights of a virgin gin & tonic.

Dog friendly, family friendly, simply friendly really. 🙂

Taigh Ailean (pronounced Tie Allan) is Gaelic for Allan’s house.

Allan McLeod chose this remote lochside location for his croft and over a century later we have chosen Portnalong as our home because of its peaceful beauty.

Situated on the end of the Minginish Peninsular with stunning views of Loch Harport, Macleod’s Tables and The Cuillin, the Taigh Ailean Hotel is the perfect base for climbing, walking, fishing, photography or just pottering about the island enjoying the scenery, crafts and coffee.

Our area is rich with wildlife. Taking a gentle stroll along the Loch you might see otters and sea eagles. Driving to Portree or climbing the Munros you could spot a golden eagle. At night when the skies are clear the stars are amazing and if you’re very lucky you might see the Northern Lights to make your stay even more special.

Welcome. Katie, Johnny & Fritz Heron

Take a moment.

Take a moment to imagine how lovely it would be to get away from it all to an unspoilt island where you can relax and unwind , explore and learn or challenge yourself physically, whatever suits your holiday needs. An island where history and the 21st century combine to give you the best possible experience. There are busy places on people’s bucket lists, and empty places where you won’t meet a soul, Just ask s and we’ll help you find your ideal day out.

You’ll find good food and a warm welcome at the Taigh Ailean Hotel.

Eat. Drink. Stay. Remember.

Head chef Elanor and her team work to add to your holiday experience by creating delicious, hearty food using as many local ingredients as possible. You might see her and Charlotte foraging for wild garlic or singing to her quails to encourage their egg laying. Maybe not the second but Talisker quail eggs are second to none… In the summer we specialise in seafood such as Sleat mussels and Portree squid. It just depends when you come what we have on offer…

Check out our reviews on Trip Advisor.

We can cater for a variety of diets (from *Biblically clean* to gluten -free) if we have some notice. Just give us a ring or if you’re staying with us include your needs on the booking form.
