Welcome
Taigh Ailean (pronounced Tie Allan) is Gaelic for Allan’s house.
Allan McLeod chose this remote lochside location for his croft and over a century later we have chosen Portnalong as our home because of its peaceful beauty.
Situated on the end of the Minginish Peninsular with stunning views of Loch Harport, Macleod’s Tables and The Cuillin, the Taigh Ailean Hotel is the perfect base for climbing, walking, fishing, photography or just pottering about the island enjoying the scenery, crafts and coffee.
Our area is rich with wildlife. Taking a gentle stroll along the Loch you might see otters and sea eagles. Driving to Portree or climbing the Munros you could spot a golden eagle. At night when the skies are clear the stars are amazing and if you’re very lucky you might see the aurora to make your stay even more special.
